I have had no luck whatsoever so far trying to tune into those Daria episodes on C5 I end up like that scientist in Contact "looking for patterns amid the chaos" I`m Relocating though, and I can`t help hoping, i`ll be able to watch Daria in Luton without the aid of a radio telescope. Where does channel five actualy go, can anybody recieve it?
Channel five.....Does it get to Luton? (UK)

It often goes from different transmitters than the other services, eg. the one for the London area is Croydon, whereas other services go from Crystal Palace. C5 is generally sent on a lower power transmitter too. You could try asking on uk.tech.broadcast, C5 coverage is sometimes talked about there. If you have cable or satellite, they usually carry C5 too I think and are your best bet for a good picture. My own reception is quite badly ghosted, though this might be because the aerial is aligned to Crystal Palace.

It was a bit like that for me before I moved into Grimsby, but I could get sound, and a fuzzy picture.
You can check out the c5 coverage map, Paul. It's at http://www.channel5.simplenet.com/tunein/index.html

My my that map is small! If you squint your eyes you can just about make out scotland
I think Luton is "borderline" but its hard to make out anything at all
I like the advice C5 give for tuning in. If you are in a blue (uncovered) area then you get asked Have you got satelite or cable? if you answer no...you get.. WHY NOT!? How silly of you not to be connected to a cable..tut tut Then they give you some speel about C5 not covering "sparsely populated areas"......Hold on! Surrey? uninhabited?
Cheers

Gosh, yes, I may have done some hard training in the Brecon Beacons, and I've been days in the wilds of Scotland without seeing another human being, but a chill runs down my spine at the thought of finding myself alone in the midst of the vast wilderness whose name people will only whisper: Surrey. "There bain't be a man 'ere as 'ud spend a night alone in Surrey, for love nor money. There be tales as 'ud turn your 'air white, young master..."
Here in Grimsby, of course, when people bemoan the hard life a trawlerman, sooner or later someone will say, "Aye, well, that's as may be, but worse things happen in Surrey."

Diary
Day 14 Remembering the words dark of caution, from Nigel, our now sadly departed guide we have decided to stick to the infamous "A3 path" overall our moral has taken a serious hit, some of the men are making a lot of entries in their diaries,...not that anybody would find our bodies in this godforsaken hellhole.
Day 16 We have now crossed the psychologicaly significant "Woking-Farnham line" Turning back is no longer an option I hope the men can hold out to the next waypoint but the outlook is so grim, i can only offer them half hearted cheer If only my damn atheletes foot would clear up!!
Day 17 Still no sign of camp Godalming I`m sure I have not misread the map
Day 18 Shared the last of the rations amoungst the men Let the dogs go Damn my feet!!
Paul gate wrote in his expedition diary ...
That was the last entry in Captain Gate's diary, at least in his own hand. Someone else had added, in a barely legible scrawl, "The dogs *were* the last of the rations, you bloody fool!"
Most of Captain Gate's body was never found; his feet were entombed in that vast, eerie, mausoleum known as "the Morden tube."
Local warlords no longer give permission for expeditions to enter Surrey.

Surrey is so bad that I work there but prefer to live in London. There's not enough beer on earth to make me drunk enough to agree to living in Surrey!
Anybody remember the Tetley's Bitter advert? Three man arrive at the bar in York station at the same time. The first one claims he should be served first because he's been working on the oil rigs for three months and hasn't had a pint for all that time. The second says that's all very well, but he should be served first as he's been in Saudi for six months. Then the third one says "Aye - but I've been in London". The other two immediately insist that he should get the first beer.

You have to experience Surrey firsthand to understand why it is so trully awfull! No description does it justice.. "A cloudy, grey California, full of tedious, mundane people"? mmm maybe it comes close, but its still painting an over rosy picture

Well, one would, of course. <g>
Though in York I'd be more eager to sample the Sam Smith's or the Black Sheep than the Tetley.

Bloody hell! How are you supposed to see anything on that?
Oh, that makes sense! Daria is the only good programme on C5, and you need cable to get C5 in a lot of places, but if you have cable you don't *need* C5 'cos you've got MTV. Yeah, great, thanks C5.
LOL. Not so's you'd notice, no, unless you're only counting intelligent lifeforms..... :)

The terrible irony here is that Surrey is filled to bursting point with the sort of morons who would gladly chop off their left head, for a chance to sample all the "mindless dreck" between the Daria episodes. I can't see how C5 could have overlooked all this. I would have thought C5 would have set up in Surrey first and then spread outwards from this firm heartland :-)

There's a better map on Mike Brown's comprehensive TV Website. The map URL is http://mb21.future.easyspace.com/ether.net/channel5/txmap.html
Luton is specifically marked as being in a coverage area. Mike also gives hints on improving C5 reception on http://mb21.future.easyspace.com/ether.net/channel5/reception.html - in many cases a new aerial suitable for wideband reception will improve matters (he specifically mentions Luton when talking about this).
