hey, umm... are there any shippers that read these convos? I feel alone...er somethin'. O, and if you are a shipper and you read the spoilers for "Lane Miserables", or seen the ep....(caution spoiler ahead *evil grin*)

ahh here we are. Finishing my sentnce... were you happy, or even a little p.o.'d or giddy about the comment the Aussie dude said Trent said? Ya know that somethin' like : "you know if you were older maybe we could go out".If thats true, they are taking a direct hit at us shippers. (right now up in their happy lil' MTV studio, they are laughing about how the shipper public is reacting to that remark. or, maybe they are plotting to kill the person who goofed and aired the new eps early... )

Note to that person: I know a really good desert island where MTV will never find you.:)

p.s.- is anyone else tired of watching other people dance on the beach for hours on end? Does MTV actually think viewers enjoy this? *Do* veiwers actually enjoy this? I don't know, but i think it's boring.

Well, from what I've gathered, Glenn Eichler himself wrote "Lane Miserables," and it's no secret that he doesn't hold the shippers in high regard (read Michelle Klein-Hass' interview with him and Susie Lewis in TOON #18 [plug! plug!] for the proof). I'm only speculating here, not having seen the episode in question -- thanks *OH* so much, you puss-heads at MTV! -- but methinks his line of thinking went something like this: "So, the shippers get the screaming thigh sweats over Daria and Trent, eh? Well, if they want shipper, then I'm gonna give it to 'em in spades, and make 'em run screaming for the hills while I'm at it!" <grin>

Undoubtedly the same island where MTV is doing its schtick this summer. You're right, they'd never find him there, as MTV couldn't find its audience if you gave them a flashlight and a road map.

I think it's mind-numbing. And MTV Programming pushed back the second half of "Daria" season three for this crap? I hope Glenn Eichler drills the whole lot of 'em a bunch of new assholes for this major cock-up.

Is this online yet? Surely one of the milliards of Daria websites must have produced a transcript of the interview by now?

Incidentally speaking of websites I've updated my Daria pages. One improvement for people using javascript-enabled browsers is "sticky" image changes - if you wave your mouse over a changeable image (also certain links) it now finishes loading and stays changed, whereas before if you moved your mouse off again straight away the image would revert to the previous one, perhaps before you even knew that a change was going to happen. For instance on my Daria homepage, <URL: http://www.xerez.demon.co.uk/daria/> if you put your mouse over the link to the Musical (without clicking), the picture on the homepage changes to suit.

I've also updated my TV pages with the latest UK Daria info: <URL: http://www.xerez.demon.co.uk/TVupdate.html> and associated TV* pages. Although these currently don't include any spoilers they may do in future as I have adopted a tendency to say something about the previous week's episode of some of the TV series I cover on my TV pages. My main Daria pages will remain spoiler free though (indeed it could be argued that they're pretty much content free as regards referring to actual episodes!)

Finally, whilst I remember, has anyone heard of allwall.com? They've offered me commission for having a link on my Daria pages (I would guess maybe they've written to all Daria webring members with the same offer?) but I'm wondering what the likelihood is that people would be buying any merchandise from them anyhow, as they currently only seem to have a single Daria poster. The idea of getting some income to subsidise my phone bill and ISP fees is attractive, but I can't help feeling that it may take years to reach the $100 minimum commission that you need to earn before they send out a payment. Has anyone else managed to earn any money from click-throughs, banner ads or whatever?

I link to an online merchant from my Daria book & video pages and from my Catholic book pages, but present figures suggest it'll take a few years before I'll accrue enough commission (GBP50) for a payment.

Of course, I do refer people to other sources besides the merchant I link to. And I chose to base my linking decision on my experience as a customer of the merchant, even though their kickback for linked products was only two-thirds of what Amazon were offering.

If I may presume to offer a comment, I think you may have to make a basic decision: are your pages a labour of love giving a service to the Daria fanbase (with an opportunity, you hope, for reclaiming some of your costs), or are they a commercial enterprise offering as your product a service to the Daria fanbase?

If the former (and that's how I always think of your pages, btw), then link by all means if you're happy with the service the merchant has given you when you've ordered from them, but accept that you may never generate enough commission for a payment.

If the latter, then the conventional wisdom would be that you should maximise your chances by going for the best-paying deal, and by avoiding any mention of alternative sources for the stuff you're linking to.

Focus is everything! (That sounds like a seminar Mr O'Neill and Ms Barch might attend!)

I can't do it as a "satisfied customer" as I have never bought anything online, either from them or anyone else! I'm not really into merchandise myself, in fact I haven't even got round to buying the Daria database or diaries yet (though I did buy the video so I could see some of the episodes I'd missed).

Having said that, I did read the Diary of Laura Palmer (which I borrowed off a friend) and quite enjoyed it.

It's a bit like the usa weekend poll, there's rules but you can break them. most click thru's will give you credit for each unique ip address you send to them in a day, so you can honestly get paid once a day for you clicking on the banner. Or if you want to be very sad you could just keep dialling up again and hope that you get allocated a different ip. As always honesty is the best policy.

If you are thinking about trying to make a bit of money off your site forget about books and cd's, with the minimum payout and the low % you will be lucky to see any money within a year.

For good (and legal!) money, join one of the personals partnership programs. Not only do you get the satisfaction of knowing you've brought people together, you get paid too. With the one I'm with you can customise the people available to the search, though I don't think you can get it to display only cynical teens and doors cover band members :)
