Least developed "Daria" characters (with most fanfic potential)

My vote is for the Three J's. Except for their adoration of Quinn and the squirrel-hunting abilities one has, they're pretty much a blank slate. It would be interesting to see one give up on Quinn and find a real life with someone new, like maybe one of the ex-Fashion Club.

Jane has astounding fanfic potential, rivaling or exceeding Daria, but she's fairly well developed--in a personality/character sense, I mean. [cough] Though, true, not much is known of her earlier life. There are very few "little Jane" stories, but lots of "little Daria and Quinn" stories.

It would be interesting to see the whole Lane family living under one roof in past years.

I recall reading one fanfic in which Jane was best friends with Tiffany in grade school. The name of the fanfic escapes me, though . ..

I remember only a few fanfic stories in which Monique appears. Is there anything we really know about her, except that she and Trent are on/off/on/off?

Only that she was, at the time of "Pierce Me" part a band called The Harpies but was planning to leave (for some reason, many fanfic writers at the time decided that she was the leader of the band, but this somehow seems unlikely given her desire to leave).

However, Trent mentions that she used to be in a band with him. The 4th season Daria page at MTV's website has a section which gave the backstory of Mystic Spiral. Trent and Jessie met when they were young (either near the end of elementary school or the start of Jr high) and both started learning to play the guitar. Max joined them in high school as the drummer. Nick, the bass player did not join the band until after high school, when the other three picked him up hitchhiking somewhere near Lawndale. The most likely deduction from this is that Monique was the group's original bass player during high school (and perhaps even earlier; it's never been stated how long she's known Trent), but left after highschool. This makes a certain amount of sense, as this would've been in the early 90s, giving her such people as Johnette Napolitano (of Concrete Blonde), Candy Del Mar (of The Cramps), Sean Yseule (of White Zombie), and D'Arcy Wretzky (of Smashing Pumpkins) as possible influences and role models. It's possible that she has her own ideas about the direction she'd like to see a band she was part of go in, which may be part of why she left Mystic Spiral (which is primarily Trent's band) and wanted to leave the Harpies (which probably has someone else as its head visionary). There's no answer to why she and Trent have an on-again, off-again relationship. Given Trent's conversation with Jane in "Camp Fear", it's very possible that his behavior gets on her nerves and he's completely oblivious to how it bothers her. Trent's "talk a lot about making it as a rock star but never putting in the effort necessary to get there" MO, combined with his ideas of what constitutes a commitment may also be the source of a great deal of frustration (perhaps even heartache) for her.

is a nice color shot of the teenage "survivors" of Camp Grizzly. I know Daria, and the two real-life winners who were added in, but which one is Amelia? The one to Daria's right? And who are the other campers in the picture? Which one is Skip?

Has anyone done a fanfic about Amelia or Skip? Amelia written up as a "blind follower" who loses her "blindness" might be interesting, but I can't see her and Daria being much more than acquaintances.

This is all that is definitely known of Monique. The above information comes from her two appearances on the show, in "Pierce Me" and "Lane Miserables". There is no indication that she is the psychopath she is frequently made out to be in fanfic - it is simply convenient to cast her in the role of the villain.

Either that, or he fully expects them to get back together again next week and isn't worried about it (even his "we just aren't meant to be" comment must be taken with a grain of salt -- he may say something like that every time they break up, or he may just be saying that because Jane told him to say what he said entirely to make Daria feel better).

I think the following characters have some potential:

Max Tyler, the drummer for Mystik Spiral. He's got a really weird personality, and I think there's a story behind him.

Sandi Griffin. So often in fanfic she is cast as a cruel, heartless, self-obsessed, manipulative, villainous thunderbitch. Sure, she's a little conceited and generally unpleasant, but she's not Lady Hitler by any means. I am currently planning a biography of Sandi that would explain why she is the way she is, and hopefully show that she's not all bad and that her behavior is somewhat justified.

Jake Morgendorffer. No one has ever written a story of his childhood, and there's so much to write about. His relationship with his parents, his unknown siblings (his mother spoke of her "children" in "Jake of Hearts", so Jake has at least on sibling) his time in military school, what made him become a flower child, etc. There's a lot of history to this guy.

Claire DeFoe. She's the only remotely normal faculty member at Lawndale High, the only adult Jane seems to respect, and her only place in fanfic seems to have been as a love interest for DeMartino - something that is definitely not supported by the show!

Link. There have been two stories that featured him prominently. One was "The Missing Link" by the Alchemist, and the other was "Community Disservice" by me. Both dealt with him running away from his rotten home (for the record, the Alchemist did his story first). Neither story actually showed what his home life was like, however, and neither story told of what happened to him afterward.

There are tons of others, but these are the ones that occur to me right away.
