SUSAN STEWART'S HITS & MISSES: As if brainy and bespectacled Daria Morgendorffer didn't have enough problems, it's summer and she's dating. In her first TV-movie, the animated heroine, who's not so animated, endures a romance without uttering a single term of endearment. Meanwhile, her vacuous sister Quinn endures a summer tutor and discovers she has a brain. These complex gals manage to grow without losing the qualities that define them. "Daria" is so smart, it makes the "real" characters on other teen shows look cartoonish. My score (0-10): 9
EDITORS' CHOICE: The droll teenager steps out of her MTV series and into this amusing 2000 made-for-cable animated feature, in which she's hounded by summer's dog days. If Daria had her druthers, she'd snooze until fall. Trouble is, her mom volunteers Daria's services at a touchy-feely day camp for sensitive kids. Even worse, a rift has developed between Daria and Jane over Tom -- Jane's ex-beau -- whom Daria is reluctantly dating. But despite Tom's best efforts, Daria's self-deprecating cynicism threatens to sabotage their relationship. Jane, meanwhile, searches for inner peace at an art colony.
