Platoon and Daria Hunters

Just saw Platoon over the weekend.

While I'm aware that The Daria Hunters is one of the least liked episodes of the regulars, when I found out that at least one scene was from there, I had a look-see. It's a pretty good movie actually (if you can ignore the bad language), and both of the borrowed scenes were from Platoon (1:"Some d**n hour, grandma" and the lines before it are an adaption of a siloloquoy of Chris near the beginning of the movie; 2: Sandi being left behind is similar to a scene where Sgt. Elias is being left behind).

Actually that second scene where Sandi is left behind is wonderfully adapted (but NOT copied, actually) for the end of "The Daria Hunters." It was quite a talented adaption, I thought.

Seeing the movie made me appreciate the episode a bit more.

I am I, like, one of the only ones who like that episode?

I've always liked this episode. The stuff between Quinn and the rest of the fashion club is excellent. I think the reason a lot of people don't like it is that Daria herself is sidelined to a subplot for much of the episode.

Like Fair Enough, this episode has a lot of bits about different groups of characters rather than a unified main plot. But unlike Fair Enough I think The Daria Hunter forms a cohesive and well-made whole, with a great ending.

I'll agree with this as well. The Daria Hunter has always been one of my favorite episodes from all 3 seasons! The ending was very well done... The way Sandi was acting, she DESERVED to be left behind, IMO. Although I WAS hoping she'd come out of the tunnel and Quinn would nail her with the paintball gun..... oh well.

Sell? That would be illegal, but if you tell me what episodes you are missing, and you have a lot of time, I could tape them for you fresh. Or if you don't have a lot of time, I could copy my collection. Supreme Court said that taping shows off TV wasn't illegal, so "I'm jiggy with it."

(you know, I never would have known what "edgy" meant without Val. I hear it occasionally on TV now).

Since my vacation is coming up in a few days, you might wait for a better offer, since I won't be back until July 24 or so.

first on my 10-years-old brother's chart of the Daria he likes the most. I wasn't knowing that the scenes was from Platoon. Alway tought they were from Apocalypse Now.

There were several references to AN (and a few from Jaws, and I think at least one each from Full Metal Jacket and Casualties of War IIRC). Specifically, the line, "The Horror! The Horror!" is in AN, and goes right back to the original _Heart of Darkness_. They covered a lot of ground in that episode, which has always been a favorite of mine.

The episode seems to have done quite a bit of borrowing, the more so for only being obvious in the two scenes already mentioned (I mean, when Daria starts talking to Grandma, it's obviously nothing to do with the Daria episode; likewise neither school bus had helicopter rotors.)

Movies with a lot of cussing don't appeal much to me, but I could endure it for the sake of a better grip on allusions in Daria.
