MTV Trivia game, again

Question #5: What is the name of Jane's father?

The game doesn't use A,B,C,D but for purposes of explanation I'll use them here:

I don't believe his name was mentioned in "Lane Miserables", or anywhere else, for that matter, so I put D in for the answer. My other answers I'm sure are right,(go to bottom for those answers) but I was only marked with 4 for the round. If his name was mentioned somewhere and I just missed it, I apologize for wasting space, but I could swear I've never seen it or heard it or read it anywhere. Someone prove me right or wrong on this, its bugging me to no end.

"Who could THAT be?"

I have gone through "Lane Mis" until I've committed the episode to memory. I have read through both Daria books. I have watched all the eps of Daria, including the pilot "Sealed With a Kick". And nowhere, NOWHERE have I seen or heard Mr. Lane's first name mentioned in the series. (The only time I've seen Mr. Lane's supposed 1st name is in Michelle K-H's fanfics, and she has named him "Simon.")

The only "Thomas" I know of on the show is Tom, who appeared as Jane's BOYFRIEND, not her father, in "Jane's Addition". I don't recall the names Vincent or Stephen either, not even among Quinn's many dates.

Is it so hard for MTV to get someone who's actually WATCHED Daria to put this game together? Hell, I'll do it for FREE, if paying someone is an issue. I'll even bring some untrained monkeys with me to proofread my survey, b/c they'll obviously do a better job than whoever's doing it now.

I will be BEYOND pissed off if they don't drop this question or give everyone credit for it. -- this is the THIRD time they've screwed up. I can't help but wonder if they aren't doing this deliberately so that no one can get a perfect score.

I was calling him Simon long before I found out his real name, and I think I will keep that an element of my fanfics should I get the time and inclination to write some more.

It was blatantly unfair to ask a question that nobody could answer, particularly since everything else on the test were softballs.

Things would have been WAY different had Martin Pollard and I gotten the chance to write the questions.

And I'm judging that by the apparent effort put into it and into the site-- there are even a few questions on the thing for which the right answers were wrong. (I guess in that case it's like the GRE-- choose the "best" answer-- it may not necessarily be the "right" one.) :P

I posted the answer here when I heard about it on the OD message board-- I figured that if someone there had figured it out (not too difficult to do-- just use the process of elimination), it would only be fair to propagate that knowledge so that everyone gets a fair shot. Letting folks trying to win a little Daria swag get thrown out of contention just 'cause they don't get to read the series bible isn't what I'd call fair. (Although I bet it's a great read. ;-)

Ohhh, yeah. Big, slow, hanging softballs, easy to rip right out of the park... ;-)

Of course, the other sad thing is that only US residents are eligible to win. Sorry, non-US viewers-- you get the boot again.

Yeah, they would've been brutal questions. <g> Ah, well, there's always next year.

Whoa, weirdness. My Dad's first and middle name is Thomas Vincent.

Er. But no Stephen. Ummm... well, a good friend of mine's middle name is Stephen... (ok, that's stretching the connection a bit

Don't have any of those in the family for sure. ;-)

And for the record, I know of Jane's father ever being named in the series... perhaps in one of the books? I haven't gotten either of those yet so it's a possibility. *turns and looks at the rest of the group*
