LHWF announcement

I am happy to announce that tonight, is the official re-debut of the Lawndale High Wrestling Federation. For those that have never heard of it, the LHWF is a wrestling organization starring the cast of those loveable, huggable, and cuddly characters from Lawndale High (That's right, the cast of MTV's Daria).

Probably the first impression some people got when they've seen the finished product was "Is it like Celebrity Beathmatch?" (You've got some nerve), the answer would be no, for Celebrity Deathmatch involved maiming and murdering the opposition (Plus it was all clay).

When the LHWF made its 1st debut back in August '98, it was strictly text-based. And let's face it: It's kinda hard to feel a bodyslam or a clothesline when reading simple text (Unless it's EXTREME TEXT!!!! {jk} ). So now, the LHWF has turned to "television" to grab its viewers' attention.

(NOTE: Until I can find a format that's more universal, Windows Media will be the only format. Also, the clip is 22mb, this is also a factor I will improve upon in the future.)

Look, I know I've gotten a lot of heat about this, and before it's over I know I'll get hatemail eventually because of this (Simply put, the Daria Frequently Unasked Questions wasn't exactly enjoyed by everyone, either). After all it's not exactly what people are expecting to see. Some believe that Daria should only be a certain way (Somehow being different no longer became an option).

All I am asking is, give it a chance first, and then make your decision as to whether or not you feel like tuning in.

Why write a fanfic? Why make fanart? Why set up a newsgroup? Hell, why even make an animated series without serious action? Because it's something that no one has done (Or even thought of). When you write a fanfic, you want to come up with a story that hasn't been done already. When you draw a picture of something, you try not to make it look like someone else's work. It's simple originality. And this wrestling league (With the cast of Daria) is no different.

It's basically something that no one has really thought of doing before. Now, before you say "There's a reason why this was never done", let me point out that the majority of the people thought that Daria wouldn't last the first three episodes (After all, it's JUST a cartoon about a girl that has a sense of humor that ISN'T a pink rabbit). They were wrong. During the first season, I've looked on the mainstream boards, guestbooks, and majority chatrooms. Every time Daria was mentioned, dozens of people started flooding with how much they despise the show, or how much MTV needs to flush it down the john, or how dykey Daria and Jane are, simply because they're not shapely and not chasing after guys every episode, or blasting giant purple aliens with plasma cannons. The majority was just waiting to see this show die during its infancy. They were wasting their time.....

I believe that the LHWF has a lot of promise, simply put, because it's something that none of these people could ever cook up in a hundred years (And you know by now how versitile the minds of the fan community are. I mean, my god, there's literally around five-hundred different fanfics, and several webpages stuffed with nothing but fanart). When you take a step back and really look at it (Without judging the book by its cover), it's a fanfic series, fanart, and a fanmovie, all in one.

Was that the answer you were looking for, or were you wanting me to add a saxophone solo as well?

It's not so much it's existence that perplexes me, it's your conviction that it's going to take off.

My opinion on fanfic is that it's probably fun to write, but 95% of it is purely crap. Instead of putting the characters in new situations, they usually, at best, put familiar situations with new characters. They hold the name and appearance of the characters from the show with completely different personalities.
