Alrighty, this is terribly off topic but to hell with it. I was perusing the sarah mclachlan newsgroup's page and foun something pretty funny. In the miscellaneous section they have the perfect example of what a newsgroup is like. It's the first joke on the page, and it's funny because it's so true. Go even if you don't like Sarah Mclachlan! Okay, I'll shut up now...

Answer 1: None. We're all so bright we don't need light bulbs in the first place.

Answer 2: None. We don't even have the flame invented, yet.

Answer 3: 1. The poster who knows the exchange rate.

Answer 4: 1. The poster with the instructions on it. MSB

p.s.: They get worse as they get shorter, don't they?

yes, msb. :)

there was a similar thread to this on alt.music.manics a while back. i liked:

how many manics fans does it take to change a lightbulb?

two million and one. one to change the bulb, 2.5 million to find the room the new bulb is in, and go on about how brilliant it is, and half a million to complain about the others and whine about how much better everything was when it was darker.

nb: you probably won't get this if you know nothing about the manics.

oops, typo... should have been, "1.5 million to find the room the new bulb is in," not 2.5. i'm not thick, honest. i got 96% in my physics test yesterday. :)

What's "rimshot". I've checked 3 dictionaries and they don't know it. MSB

A Rimshot is a drumbeat that often follows the punchline to a joke. The drumbeat usually goes something like, "Buh DUM pah." I think it started back in vaudeville & it often followed the punchline to a corny or hokey joke (although the joke in question here was NOT hokey, IMO).

HTH!

Um. It's hard to explain. A "corny" or "hokey" joke is a bad joke, in the sense that it's obvious or overused and not funny.

A rimshot is a drum move in which you rap the end of the stick against the rim of the snare drum, making a sharp sound. "Rimshot" in this case refers to a quick little drum maneuver that used to be played in comedy clubs after jokes. It usually refers to a cheesy, lame joke.
