Am leaving, probably. May return, possibly when/if I stop feeling shit and/or when/if this newsgroup stops being so hostile. I understand that most of this hostility is my fault. Anyhow, I disapprove of "I'm leaving"-type messages, but I feel the need to post one anyhow, even though I may have changed my mind by tomorrow. Maybe I just need some sleep right now. Anyway, I will leave this group to recover or something, will probably still read it a bit without posting, esp. if it gets nicer again, which probably won't happen as long as TDH is here, but... oh well. I would however like to stress that it is not *just* TDH, before his ego swells to astronomical proportions at the thought of having gotten rid of me all by himself.

I'm back today, but I probably won't stay long 'cos I only came here today because I'm really hyper LOL, and I have exams and I only just realised how soon they all are and now I'm sort of panicking because I haven't done any work for my French oral exam and it's in about 10 days or something LOL, so I'll have to be doing revision and stuff soon and also I'll be feeling really shit again soon 'cos that always happens. :( But I will return after the exams, probably, unless TDH returns or something.

Heh, he made a cute webpage, but you're right, he's never displyed any *special* talents (he did DJ pretty well, though). I'm extrapolating a bit, I guess, from the little shown of his character.

I agree. He treats women purely as sex objects, and can't even have a simple conversation with a girl without "rrowing" and calling the girl "fiesty". To some extent, I think that's a front for loneliness and insecurity, but based on the way he acts he really has no right to expect any woman to think otherwise.

I think he would, but I'm not sure. I get the impression that he's never really had a girlfriend; all his womanizing seems theoretical.

Actually, based on the material in the books, Chuck seems to have a special crush on Daria. Why we don't know, but presumably he respects her courage, intelligence, and integrity. Too bad he doesn't have any chance with her, the way he acts ...

The girls Upchuck is interested in tend to fall into one of two categories: brainless beauties, or geniuses. Note that he comes on to Andrea at the fair (and apparently annoys her enough that he merits special attention, hee-hee, in her comic strip). Now, while I personally find Andrea cute, she doesn't fit contemporary criteria of physical attractiveness, among other things she's definitely chubby. Likewise Daria, whose beauty is definitely non-standard.

Ironically, if Upchuck didn't try so hard, he might find female friendship, and perhaps love. Daria might like him if he didn't act slimy; Andrea actually shares some of his interests (they're both into fantasy, for example); and even Brittany might appreciate him if he paid attention to her as a person rather than just a body. Upchuck's constant come-ons are in the end self-defeating.

So I've heard. Upchuck may get laid, for all I know ... on the other hand, we never see him on the show with any girlfriends, only females desperately trying to avoid his attentions.

What I mean by "misguided" is that he evidently doesn't enjoy the love or companionship of any woman he values, and he might be able to have such if he only stopped acting like a jerk for a while.

Specifically, the evident insincerity of any expressed emotions, the appeal for inappropriate intimacy (given the degree of his acquaintance), his leering facial expressions and insinuating tone of voice, and the fact that he is known to say these kinds of things to literally everyone. Plus, we've only heard the stuff he says to Daria, Andrea, and Jane ... girls he actually respects. The things he says to the girls he doesn't respect are probably much dirtier.

Thanks, and oh my, I'm going to need it! We did this exam paper in Maths and it was too hard some questions, some of it was easy but some of it was really difficult and I asked the teacher 'cos she said she'd explain stuff we didn't get but she explained the wrong things about it and wouldn't listen when I told her that wasn't what I didn't get... She's the one that doesn't "get it", I reckon. Never mind.... <sigh> :)
