soundtrack album

I've just been going through old episodes listening to the endsongs, and of course I'm asking myself, as many have done before me, "why isn't there a Daria soundtrack album out? I mean, MTV is a music channel isn't it? And they did get permission from all those groups to use their music at the end of (and sometimes during) Daria didn't they? (Didn't they?)

After Monster, I actually went out and bought the Lightning Seeds album that has "Change" on it, but the rest of the album was a bit of a disappointment. I don't want to buy 20 albums just to get the full versions of some one-off cool songs, so it's high time a compilation of Daria tracks was released. They could put even release the Daria! soundtrack! In the meantime, does anyone know if the full version of any of these songs is available as an mp3? Or if any of the full albums live up to the snippets we hear? I'm quite into the Misery Chick one at the moment (Pearl, by Love & Rockets) but I don't know what their other stuff is like. I also like the Fishcakes song, but according to the FAQ it's unreleased - is it available online?

You'd think that on-the-ball Kate would have made some explanatory noises about why we'd suddenly jumped back 35 episodes to the beginning wouldn't you? But instead she just glossed over it, ie. didn't say anything about it being a rerun. Just the theme tune gives it away though, it has a sort of shallow dated sound. I hadn't realised how much it had changed until I heard that first version again today.

One of the ending's has a song that sounds like George Harrison singing about fools. Anybody know what this is?

The Daria song by Cake inspired me to buy this CD.

That was "Change" by Lightning Seeds. You can get it on the "Clueless" motion picture soundtrack-- it also has "Feel Alright" by Supergrass on it (which was the closing song for "Quinn the Brain.")

Same here-- it's a good CD, and it turned me on to Cake in general. The one song that I was really glad to find was "Rocket Plane (Music on the Moon)" by Komeda-- it's the funky organ-y music in the background in "Big House." It's a cool tune.

You can find a bunch of info about the music on the show at www.lawndale.net -- in fact, the lack of the original music in the 3-episode video is one of the major reasons why it was so disappointing. (Hopefully, when they put out the DVDs, they'll use the original music!) ;-)

I bought the Komeda CD which has this song. I've only listened to the CD in its entirety once...but I've listened to "Rocket Plane" many many times.

That end song always reminds me of an episode of Clarissa where she's lying on her bed staring at the ceiling, speaking to her friend Sam whilst thinking about topping herself.

they dont make a soundtrack 'cause theres too many damn songs to do one! theres gotta be a good 15 songs per show.... but it would be a better idea to make a soundtrack album out of all the songs that are played during the credits...thos songs are groovy (haha).

errrm, i can't remember, but i know it's been played... i think a season 1 episode. hummmm... it's outside the morgendorffer house... can't remember what episode. i think cafe disaffecto.. not at all sure.

And after this past weekend, it certainly makes more sense than that sig you used to use...the one that said "Cubs win! Cubs win!" etc.

Well yeah, sure. ANYONE could jump on the Bulls bandwagon. That's easy. But it takes it takes something special to remain a fan of a team that hasn't won a championship in living memory. And to do it while ostensibly keeping your sanity is particularly impressive.

Of course the only thing out of Chicago I'm a fan of is Mike Royko. I miss his writing. By comparison Dave Berry is worthless, a poor substitute.

Maybe the reason that the other teams have never won the big one is that the Bulls have been slowly sucking away all of the 'championship juice' from the other franchises/teams in the greater Chicago area until they had enough to win 6 titles in 8 years. Or maybe it was that Jordan guy.

Hey! I resemble that remark! Well, not for a while (dammit when was the last time I watched a baseball game at all? a while now...) but when I was a kid, the Cubs were the only team of course.

My grandmother lived straight across the lake from Chicago and got their TV stations, so it was the Chicago teams I'd watch. Including-- you got it-- the Cubs! I'd sit down, big bunch of junk food, and watch the games! And sing along to "Take Me Out to the Ball Game"... dammit, I'm too young to be nostalgic!!

I've thought that a soundtrack album would be interesting but I'd guess they can't do it because the license to use the music probably only extended to using the music for the show, not for any other release. To release a soundtrack album they'd probably have to do some negotiating.
