I don't want to rip the show any (I liked it too), but Downtown never stood a chance against the three titans of Monday night.
ABC's Monday Night Football, WCW Monday Nitro, and WWF Monday Night Raw have all gobbled up the viewers on Monday Nights as if to say "If you're not watching either of these, you're probably asleep".
If Downtown was on some other night, maybe we would be hearing 2nd season joys instead of cancellation cries.

Besides, shows like those you mentioned mostly draw male viewers (although female viewers watch them too, but much fewer I would imagine). There's still the female demographic to be worked on.
To be quite honest, I don't know many wrestling fans who like Daria, so I guess I don't know many wrestling fans who like Downtown. I suppose you're an exception though.

Barely. Last year, wrestling was just beginning to get as popular as it is now. After thinking about it, MTV could actually get in on the wrestling game by moving Celebrity Deathmatch to Monday nights. If it succeeds, cool. If it fails, it doesn't matter, not many people here like the show anyways (Personally, I think it got old after the 1st season).
It's kinda like Metallica fans and Jewel fans, Wrestling fans and Daria fans simply cannot coexist. Last year, I tried to bridge the gap between the two fanbases with the Lawndale High Wrestling Federation. It peutered out last April. You would not believe how many E-Mails I get from the beer-drinking wrestling fans that tell me that "Daria is the gayest show ever".
I don't know if this principle applies to Downtown or not, so there.
It's not pointless, it's just that no one seems to care (Probably why Downtown got cancelled).

I must be a rare exception, then. When Daria was on Mon. nights, I watched it, taped the WWF and watched it after. I have all Daria eps on tape as well as every WWF PPV since 1985, WCW, there isn't a word to describe how lame it is,was, and will always be.
I watched a couple of Downtown shows, but never really got into it as much as Daria, with Daria I was instantly hooked, Downtown never hooked me, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't my thing.
