A short time ago, there was a question stating: What would Daria think of Michael Moore? Unfortunately, a group of people from what is Http://www.revoketheoscar.com , want Michael Moore's Oscar for "Bowling for Columbine" taken away because it is merely anti-gun propaganda and a slap at Charleton Heston.

I haven't checked the website, but there's good reason to revoke that Oscar. Mainly, Bowling for Columbine does not fit the Academy's definition of a documentary (and it isn't one). It's rather disappointing that it can win the award for a category it shouldn't have even been in in the first place.

Yes, Bowling for Columbine is more an ANTI-Gun Propaganda as documentary.
BUT: There were a lot of Oscar-winning US-Propaganda/documentaries during WW2.
Look for example at "December 7, 1941" (about the Pearl Habor attack) from the director John Ford, which won 1943 the Oscar for best short documentary.
The movie is spiced up with Hollywood special effects. For example: The Japanese planes in the movie attacking Pearl Habour were US "Dauntless" bombers. Not to forget the righteous narrator..
Not quite "documentarily", isn't it? Still, I enjoyed the movie, because it served a good cause: Fighting dictators. "Bowling for Columbine" has a good cause too: Fighting stupidity.

Uh, Reese, have you read what's on the site? Moore's "Bowling For Columbine" is a work of fiction. It misrepresents things like:
Moore was shown going into a bank with a gun and coming out of the bank with money..as if that "guns for cash" thing really worked that way. It doesn't. The bank gives you paperwork to fill out before getting the cash.
Michael Moore is a raging Bush-hater (and I sense not the only one in this thread). It wouldn't surprise me if he tried to follow in the footsteps of John Wilkes Booth (for those of you who go to Lawndale High, assassinate a president).
