Presumably some of the young Daria characters will eventually become parents.

Which (currently-)teen girl on Daria do you think would make the best mother? And why?

I'm also wondering how they'd each handle the process of becoming mothers. Jodie's already sexually active, so I imagine she won't have such an difficult time handling pregnancy. I think Tiffany and Stacy could get knocked up too easily during their first sexual encounters. Tiffany because she'd be too slow to use birth control or resist the advances of a man, and Stacy because she's still not entirely strong-willed enough to do what she wants with anybody. Still she's nurturing and sensitive enough to at least want to take care of a baby. Whether she'd be the best mother, I couldn't really say.

They would rebel against her by becoming Goths or punk rockers or whatever the "youth rebellion" style of 25 years from now will be. Her kids will look up to Aunt Daria the way Daria looks up to Aunt Amy.

I want to go on record right now as saying I don't really hate Sandi! I've joked about it, but down deep I do wish she would become a nicer person. If things don't change, however, she'll be the Mom from hell. Her children will spend decades in analysis trying to break free of her.

Best case scenario? Sandi's son becomes a highly successful gay clothing designer, the toast of Paris and Milan.

Stacy is a very insecure and anxious person and though she has a good heart, she'll probably communicate that to her kids. A lot will depend on the kind of man she marries. If he makes her feel more secure, all will be well.

Tiffany, if she's lucky, will be the trophy wife of a much older man, whose grown children will treat her like sh*t. I don't see her having her own kids. Like another poster mentioned, pregnancy makes you look f-a-a-a-t. She might adopt, however, but in the scenario I've mentioned, her kids will be raised by their nannies while Mama Tiffany is at Tiffany's, shopping.

For the record, I'm just about the only person in this NG who wishes Tiffany wasn't a total idiot. Maybe it's because I have a thing for Asian women. :-)

There's so little information available about Andrea, it's impossible to know.

Once again, too little information. Tom's sister, Elsie, with her sarcastic tongue, could either be Daria or Sandi. And that's a wide range.

No, I just wanted to see what everyone's answer was.

We've had some humorous answers and some responses to everybody but I don't think we've had anyone really come out and say "X would be the best mother."

Daria and Jane would be. They would be rational and provide better than the minimum daily required levels of love and nurturance, plus they'd be honest and down-to-earth with their kids. However, when I think of either of them interacting with kids, I have this uncomfortable image of Morticia Addams taking a knife away from her daughter, then giving her an axe. ("That's better.")
