I have been contacted by Glenn Eichler regarding my and others' efforts to make MTV Network Operations DROP THE DONUT and FIX THE 3PM WEEKDAY SHOWINGS.

Here is an excerpt from his email...and no, I will not give out his email under any circumstances, inclusive of torture.

I will be putting up a special online form on Lawndale Commons for "bug reports" on showings past and present. All form results will be passed on to Eichler's office for forwarding to the correct people at MTV National Operations Center.

Until the bug report form is up, you can email me directly with incident reports...take the spamblockers out of my address (follow the e-z instructions!) and drop me a line.

And don't forget to keep the snailmail flying to MTV!!! If you need the instructions, here's the URL:

In fact, the Season Two airings had improved through Early November (i.e., the screwup rate went down considerably), until it was time to show Esteemsters and The Invitation just last week. It seems as if the video masters for both eps have been sufficiently mangled by overairing. (Not a bad thing per se, but new masters *really* need to be made.) I also noticed that the intro for "Cafe Disaffecto" that recently aired wasn't the original one-- it was the season two intro, as if they'd redone the intro for the master, or (more likely), made a new one. (I seem to remember a past airing of that ep that was mangled beyond belief, and cussing at my VCR when I checked the tape, but it wasn't the poor machine's fault.)

FWIW, I'm just relieved to hear that SOMEONE is listening. (Esp. one of the Creative Forces behind the show.) Give 'em Hell, Glenn!

Given the fact that they hired that heroin addict-wannabe Jesse to act like an idiot on the air, I'd say the answer is "no".

Do you recall if the color behind the text was green? If so, it would support the "remade the intro" theory, as all season two eps used a green background for the episode title (magenta was used for season one). They did start using the "better" version of the theme song around episode #104, though, so that may not be much of an indicator.

I am currently going through my tape of season 1 episodes recorded around mid-september. If anyone can help me establish when the episodes on my tape aired I would really appreciate it. He's even been reading this newsgroup. The idea that he has even the vaguest knowledge of the HUMAMS (Happydude Universal Measurement and Music System) gives me a happy/frightened feeling.

Oh, that brings back guilty memories....when I was in year 8, this girl who was really thick (she had some medical condition I think, but I swear I had no idea at the time) joined our class, and we found out she was really gullible, and we told her we all had children, for some obscure reason, and that we all smoked crack and stuff like that, and she believed every word of it...and then, we laughed at her for being such an idiot. We'd do things like this to the poor girl on a regular basis and probably totally destroyed her self-esteem.....

Reminds me of a story my father (may he rest in peace) told. He and the other firemen were listening to a news report which spoke, as many had before, of "Heavy bombing at random." One of them remarked that this place Random was constantly getting targetted -- and he meant it. The others said, yes, it was a sight to see, and hadn't he been over to look at it? No, he didn't know where it was. They wrote down vague directions to "Randham," and their gullible colleague spent the whole of his next off duty day cycling round trying to find it. He reported his lack of success; they put his failure to find it down to good security, because of all the secret installations at Randham.

I suppose a key question in teasing the gullible is, is it good-humoured and affectionate, or mocking and vicious?

That sort of behavior is endemic in most fire and EMS (ambulance) stations. Ask just about any firefighter, EMT or Paramedic, and they'll be able to tell you similar stories. It's, as you noted, good-natured rather than spiteful. Funny, but the emergency services seem to attract these two types of people: the intelligent, witty (and somtimes sarcastic), very Daria-like, and the gullible, good-hearted but just a little dimwitted. Think Kevin but not as extreme. Believe me, it's a strange family, but one that works. (Speaking as a career Paramedic for 21 years and a volunteer Firefighter for just under 24. And yes, I have *lots* of stories).

Anyway, I think our heroine would get along well in that environment. Oops, I mentioned Daria. I guess I'd better get back off-topic now.

(Aside to Martin: The musician/liturgist thing is something I volunteer to do on the side. It's not as schizophrenic as it may seem. Or maybe it is. Who knows? At least I'm off topic).

Are you by any chance thinking of the "Psycho Ward 10" sketch in the Alexei Sayle show? Where this new doctor is sits down and starts talking to these weird guys who are sat there acting sort of peculiar, and trying to get them to say their names and stuff, but without much luck as they keep calling themselves after Hitchcock films. Then when he refers to one of them as a patient they all start laughing manically, and one of them says, "We're not the *patients*, we're the *nurses*!"
